RNC Summer Day Camp Coordinator Job Description

The RNC Summer Day Camp Coordinator’s efforts are to assist the teacher(s) in every way deemed appropriate in order to provide an effective day camp curriculum that is objective-focused, varied, interesting, hands-on, and student-oriented. Our major focus in our day camps is to help students reconnect with nature in a positive way that enhances the appropriate, basic concepts of earth science curriculum. The specifics of what the RNC Day Camp Coordinator does includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Handle emergencies. Make certain that first-aid supplies are stocked and always available (including field trips).
  • See that all the medical forms are completed. A duplicate set of medical forms must be given to the teacher, and she is to carry these forms and a first-aid kit on all excursions off grounds.
  • Write and copy parent letters for each day of each camp.
  • Meet the parents at the end of the day to distribute the parent letters.
  • Be sure you & the teacher(s) sign in and out daily on the correct form in main office area.
  • On Thursday of each camp distribute the camp evaluation form to the parents and ask that they return them by Friday afternoon at pick up time. These evaluations are written specifically for each day camp.
  • Make sure the teacher(s) writes a lesson plan for each day of camp prior to camp beginning and share the plans with the Exec. Director.
  • Make sure the teacher(s) has what s/he needs, when s/he needs it.
  • Go over the next day’s schedule with teacher(s) at the end of the day.
  • Decide with the teacher(s) if any changes need to be made.
  • Get feedback from teacher(s), students, parents.
  • Oversee the scheduling of all speakers/events.
  • Observe the teacher doing his/her job. Report any concerns to the Exec. Director.
  • Oversee any difficult situation that develops with a specific child &/or parent.
  • Report all such incidents to the Executive Director.
  • Relieve teacher(s) during breaks and lunch—The students usually eat and then watch a nature-related video during the 30 min. lunch period.
  • Assist with the daily/weekly preparation duties and clean up.
  • Monitor the recommended preventative safety issues, i.e., sun block application, etc.
  • Attend all off-campus fieldtrips with the teacher(s)/students.

RNC Summer Day Camp Teacher Job Description

The RNC Summer Day Camp Teacher’s efforts are to plan and implement an effective day camp curriculum program that is objective-focused, varied, interesting, hands-on, and student-oriented. Our major focus in our day camps is to help students reconnect with nature in a positive way that enhances basic concepts of an age-appropriate earth science curriculum. The specifics of what the RNC Day Camp Teacher does includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Be ready to handle all emergencies. Make certain that first-aid supplies are always available/in hand (esp. for off-site field trips).

  • Be sure that all medical forms are in your possession at all times. You are to carry these forms and a first-aid kit to all off-site excursions.

  • Meet/Greet the parents at the start/end of each day.

  • Be sure you sign in/out daily on the correct form in main office.

  • Perfect attendance is strongly requested/encouraged!

  • You must write a detailed lesson plan for each day of camp a week prior to the camp’s first day and a copy must be given to the RNC Day Camp Coordinator (DCC).

  • The DCC is to help insure you have what you need, when you need it.

  • Please report any problem with the DCC to the RNC Exec. Director.

  • Go over the next day’s lessons & schedule with DCC at the end of each day.

  • Decide with the DCC if any changes in your lesson plan(s) need to be made.

  • Get feedback from DCC, the students, and the parents as appropriate.

  • Work with the DCC when any difficult situation develops involving a specific child &/or parent. All such incidents need to be reported to the Exec. Director.

  • All injuries, physical problems, or behavioral difficulties/problems MUST be reported to the DCC and the RNC Exec. Director daily.

  • Teacher(s) are allowed 2-15 min. breaks (one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.) and a 30 min. duty-free lunch period. The timing of these must be set up with the DCC previous to each day beginning.

  • The daily/weekly preparation and clean up MUST be accomplished. All equipment/materials need to be returned to their designated storage place so that they can be more easily found/used in the future.

  • Monitor the recommended preventative safety issues, i.e., sun block application, etc.

  • Once a commitment has been made by you to teach a summer day camp, a letter of agreement must be signed and filed. A letter of commitment is needed in order that the best programming can be developed/planned/implemented by the Riverside Nature Center Association staff.
