EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SEARCH

Key Responsibilities, Executive Director, Riverside Nature Center
December 2011
 
• Responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Riverside Nature Center (RNC), as follows:
    - Works with the Board to establish RNC priorities
- Supervises staff, including paid employees and volunteers.
- Ensures that the approved policies, procedures, and practices of the RNC are applied, updated as necessary, and implemented consistently
- Works with the committee chairs, to ensure that the facility is well-maintained, provides a positive experience for visitors, and is operated safely and efficiently
- Works with program leaders and planners to provide high quality, timely programs which are consistent with the mission of the Center; this includes planning and evaluation of events.
- Coordinates the activities of the volunteers in order to ensure they work cohesively and are pursuing appropriate RNC priorities
- Proposes the preliminary annual budget for board approval, and manages RNC operations within the final budget
- Handles day-to-day issues and problems, consulting with the Board on major concerns and keeping the Board aware of any significant problems
• Serves as the primary “face and voice” of the RNC, ensuring the Center’s stakeholders are aware of the Center’s mission and goals. This responsibility includes, for example:
    - Proposes to the Board innovative, effective fund-raising strategies and activities with the goal of significantly increasing the RNC’s income Interacts with principal grantors and other contributors in order to keep them committed to the RNC
- Engages the community in appropriate forums to publicize RNC activities and to build the membership base
- Works with and develops relations with the media to publicize RNC activities as broadly as possible.
• Formulates and secures board approval for a broader and more extensive RNC role in the region and/or state, which might include the following:
    - Develops programs to attract conservation-minded individuals to the RNC
- Works collaboratively with other like-minded organizations to sponsor regional- or state-wide conferences on conservation issues of interest to the public and other constituencies
• Researches and pursues (or in some cases, arranges for the pursuit) of grant and other fund-raising options that are consistent with the RNC’s mission
    - Networks with similar organizations in order to gain an understanding of their approaches in this area
- Writes grant applications, and ensures their proper administration
- Contracts with grant writers, as needed, to write grant applications
     

Position is full-time; salary range: $39,000-$42,000. Applicants should submit a complete resume’, with a cover letter indicating why they believe they are qualified. The letter and resume’ should be placed in a sealed envelope and either delivered or mailed to Riverside Nature Center, 150 Lemos Street in Kerrville, with the outside of the envelope marked for “Executive Director Search Committee.” Applications will be reviewed beginning in mid-January 2012 and the position is open until filled.
